New Millennium Reformed Center

The New Millennium Reformed Center in Timișoara is an outstanding architectural, cultural and ecclesiastical monument of Banat. The organic architecture of Imre Makovecz expresses the connection between heaven and earth.

At the New Millennium Reformed Center, congregational life and culture have a place side by side. Alongside the church, spaces for music, community life and gatherings form the building complex on the banks of the Bega in Timișoara.

Architectural Concept

Project by: Imre Makovecz. Collaborating architects: Csaba Müller and Tibor Bata

The New Millennium Reformed Center was designed by the Kossuth Prize-winning architect Imre Makovecz. The detailed plans and execution were carried out by the collaborating architects Csaba Müller and Tibor Bata.

The building complex follows principles of organic architecture: natural timber materials, arched load-bearing structures, warm brick tones and twin towers of 40 metres shape the building's appearance on the bank of the Bega canal.

The Church

From the founding of our congregation on 29 March 1999 until the autumn of 2009, the dilapidated prayer house on Negruzzi Street was our spiritual home. We then moved into the still undivided ground-floor hall of the first accommodation building to be completed. From 28 June 2014, we moved into the ground-floor hall of the HU–RO building financed by the European Union.

Finally, after the ceremonial inauguration on 15 December 2019, our congregation arrived at its permanent home, the church.

Together with the surrounding gallery, the church can accommodate 500 people.

The Organ

Our organ was built at the same time as the church, almost in parallel, in the workshop of the organ builder Péter Sándor from Csíkszentsimon.

The organ has 25 stops and two consoles; it is the only mechanical organ in Timișoara.

In our worship services the organist Viorel Ciurtin serves as cantor, and we hope to be able to host as many organ concerts as possible in this architecture with its special atmosphere.

The organ was completed on 19 April 2021.

May it be accompanied by the joy of God and of people!

The Club

The inauguration of the Club was held on October 24, 2017. In this club everyone can have fun. We organize late afternoon and evening programs where we combine culture with civilized entertainment.

This space is café-like and hosts various club activities, meetings and themed music evenings. It is up to the citizens of Timisoara – as well – to bring it to life. We organize programs for the younger ones, middle-aged people and our aging siblings, as well as we leave room for independent initiatives.

The room is equipped with a projector and professional speakers for occasional events and it can accommodate 50 people.
